WILD9, the 9th World Wilderness Congress will take place on November 6 – 13, 2009 at the Siglo XXI Convention Center in the city of Merida, Yucatán, Mexico.
Check-In and On-site Registration
Registration and check in for pre-registered delegates will be at the Fiesta Americana Hotel, November 4-5. From November 6th through the remainder of the Congress, registration and check in will be at the Convention Center.

Transportation in Merida

GETTING THERE:
By air:
Merida International Airport
The airport is located on Avenida de los Itzaes, only 20 minutes away from downtown. There are some
direct international flights to Merida from the United States. This airport is also very well connected
with Mexico City International Airport, from which you can connect flights from all over the world.
Mexico City International Airport
This is the best option for international travel. Many airlines have regular daily services to Merida: Aeromexico, Mexicana, Aviacsa and Click.
Cancun International Airport
Cancun is the second largest airport in Mexico. It is very well connected internationally, servicing flights from Europe, North and South America, and Japan.
Mexicana offers one flight per day from Cancun's International Airport to Merida's Airport.
By land:
Bus:
From Mexico City
Some companies (ADO www.ado.com.mx) offer services between Mexico City and Merida. However cheap, the ride is 19 ½ hours long.
From Cancun
There are many companies that connect Merida and Cancun on a regular, daily basis. The bus terminal in Cancun is downtown, 45 minutes away from the airport. Most buses from Cancun arrive at the CAME bus station in Merida, and some stop at the hotel area, near Avenida Colon:

From other Mexican destinations
Buses are the most common transport in Mexico. There is a wide array of companies and services that connect Mexican cities and destinations. You can book online tickets from cities like Villahermosa, Campeche, Palenque, San Cristóbal de las Casas and Chetumal here: www.ticketbus.com.mx
Car:
You don’t really need a car. You can easily get around town by foot or taxi, and WILD9 will provide regular shuttle services from the hotels to the convention center every day.
However, if you want to visit the region before or after the congress, you can rent a car with Budget, Avis and Hertz, with branches at the airport and on Calle 60 between Calle 55 and Calle 57.
HOTELS:
The Secretariat of WILD9 has obtained special rates for delegates with a wide range of hotel options in Merida. However, you can choose any other form of accommodation that suits your needs, like staying with a friend, sharing a hotel room with your colleagues to reduce costs, etc.
