Wilderness Working Sessions, Day 2

The second day of the Wilderness Working Sessions includes morning presentations on Valuing Wild Nature by Pavan Sukhdev, Panel discussions on Payments for Ecosystem Services and Wild Nature & Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation, and a photography keynote by Art Wolfe.

The Afternoon concurrent sessions include 3 primary sessions:

• Symposium on Science & Stewardship to Protect and Sustain Wilderness Values (details below);

• Native Lands and Wilderness Council; and,

WiLDSPEAK, focused on Photojournalism and with presentations by Pete Oxford, Robert Glenn Ketchum and others.

Science Symposium sessions (2:30-4:00pm) include: The Wild Yucatan; Marine Collaborative Workshop; Payment for Ecosystem Services training; Wildland Fire Management workshop focused on protected areas; Asia-Pacific collaboration: Administration, Management and Training; Recreation Monitoring Training; Connectivity Conservation, Writers Workshop: Tailoring your Message; the Jaguar (case studies); and Water in Mexico: payment for ecosystem services (Spanish session).

Science Symposium sessions (4:30-6:00pm) include: Adaptive Management and Legal Protection of Wilderness; Marine Collaborative Workshop; Wild Europe; Wildland Fire Management: Appropriate responses; Asia-Pacific Collaboration: ecotourism and local communities in Kamchatka; Public-Private Partnerships; Connectivity Conservation; Jaguar (case studies); and, Water in Mexico: Payment for Ecosystem Services (Spanish session).

From 6:30-8:00pm Reforestamos Mexico and Grupo Bimbo will host a receptions in the Forest Pavilion on Valuing Ecosystem Services & launching Mercados Ambientales.


Evening Events, 8:00pm onwards The WILD Blue I: Ocean and Marine Wilderness at the Fiesta Americana, featuring Brian Skerry, Carl Safina, Tommy Remengesau and James Kurth, followed by a reception. From 9-12pm, iLCP hosts “12 Shots” at the Fiesta Americana.
