Wilderness Working Sessions, Day 4

The fourth day of the Wilderness Working Sessions includes photography keynote by Thomas Mangelsen, panel discussions on Wilderness and People, focused on Social Issues and Agriculture & Climate Change, and a keynote by William Meadows, President of The Wilderness Society.

The Afternoon concurrent sessions include 3 primary sessions:

• Symposium on Science & Stewardship to Protect and Sustain Wilderness Values (details below);

• Native Lands and Wilderness Council; and,

WiLDSPEAK, focused on Photojournalism and with presentations by Pete Oxford, Robert Glenn Ketchum and others.

Science Symposium sessions (2:30-4:00pm) include: Biodiversity and Wilderness; Recreation and Visitor Experience Workshop on applying and monitoring results; Wildland Fire management workshop of evolving wildland fire management programs in US National Parks; Nature photography; Ecological Services of Wilderness (Freshwater); A strategy forum on transboundary environments and climate change; public-private partnerships workshop, green funds & innovative financial mechanisms for conservation and sustainability; Yellowstone to Yukon, Water in Mexico-Hydrosheds (Spanish session), and a meeting of the Marine Wilderness Collaborative.

Science Symposium sessions (4:30-6:00pm) include: Wildland Fire management workshop on adapting fire programs for the future; World Commission on Protected Areas member meeting, Case studies from Asia; part two of the forum on transboundary conservation and climate change; Public-Private partnership workshop; the Role of Education in Stewardship of Wilderness Resources; Alta-Sayan connectivity project; and Water in Mexico – Citizen Participation (Spanish Session).

Evening Events, 8:00pm onwards Body Painting: an artistic exploration, in gallery format, applying the ancient art of body decoration to the cause of protecting wild-nature at the Hacienda Tekit de Regil (transportation provided).
